The Microbiorefinery
The MicroBioRefinery is a new research facility, result of a Regional Growth Fund project to enable high-throughput discovery of suitable routes to bio-derived compounds from biomass. The MicroBioRefinery project was inspired by the huge commercial and academic success generated by the Centre for Materials Discovery, both located in the Chemistry Department. The ultimate aim is to develop sustainable routes for the production of a range of consumer products – achieving appreciable societal, environmental and economic impacts. The multimillion research budget has allowed us to build new state of the art research labs and purchase dedicated automated robots, reactors, analysis and characterisation equipment and to recruit dedicated research staff.
